Trust: The Foundation of Strong Relationships

Trust is often described as the glue that holds relationships together, whether in business, friendships, or family. It is the foundation of strong relationships.

It’s a simple word, but its impact is profound. Without trust, communication breaks down, collaboration falters, and relationships can quickly unravel.  Complete trust is not immediate; it is built over time as both people within a relationship continually provide opportunities to show trust and accept trust.

I remember an experience from a few years ago that really drove this home for me.

I was working on a project with a new team member, Sarah. She was highly skilled, but because we hadn’t worked together before, I wasn’t entirely sure how well we’d collaborate. I assumed she had similar concerns being new to the team. There were tight deadlines and high stakes, so we couldn’t afford any missteps.

One day, I asked Sarah to handle a critical aspect of the project. As soon as I handed it over, I could see a moment of hesitation in her eyes. She asked if I was sure I wanted her to take it on, given the importance of the task. Without missing a beat, I assured her that I trusted her completely and believed she was the right person for the job.

That simple act of placing my trust in her made all the difference. It immediately made Sarah feel more confident and allowed her to focus on the work she was doing rather than my approval. Sarah not only delivered exceptional work but also went above and beyond, bringing fresh ideas and energy to the project. Her willingness to share ideas showed she trusted me to listen and be open to her opinions.  Because of this growing trust on both sides, our collaboration strengthened throughout the project, and that initial trust we established became the foundation for a highly effective partnership.

This experience reminded me that trust isn’t just about believing someone will do their job; it’s about empowering them to take ownership and rise to the occasion. When you trust someone, you give them the confidence to perform at their best, and that trust often inspires them to exceed expectations. The mutual benefit is trust grows on both sides during these experiences, allowing the relationship to flourish.

Trust is the foundation on which strong relationships are built, and when nurtured, it can lead to incredible outcomes.

Maybe It’s Not My Fault… But It Is My Responsibility

There’s a shift that happens in life… quiet, but powerful when we stop asking “Why did this happen to me?” and start asking “What am I going to do about it?” Because the truth is… Not everything that happens to us is our fault. We didn’t choose the environment we grew...

Don’t Skip the Celebration

We’re wired to chase the next thing. The next deal. The next goal. The next version of ourselves. And in that pursuit… we quietly walk right past the wins. Not because they don’t matter.. but because we’ve convinced ourselves they’re “not big enough.” But let me...

You Always Harvest What You Plant

There is a timeless principle that governs life whether we acknowledge it or not: you reap what you sow. Farmers understand this better than anyone. They don’t walk into a field expecting corn if they planted weeds. They don’t scatter nothing into the soil and expect...

Consistency: The Quiet Force Behind Every Meaningful Life

Everyone loves the big moments. The promotion. The championship. The finished book. The standing ovation. But those moments are not where success is built. They are where it is revealed. Success is almost always the byproduct of something far less glamorous…...

Disappointment Reveals. Response Defines.

Disappointment hits different when you actually cared. When you didn’t just show up halfway. When you gave your time. Your effort. Your heart. We don’t get wrecked by things we didn’t value. We get wrecked by the things we hoped would work. The promotion you thought...

The First Week Sets the Tone

The first week of a new year isn’t about perfection. It’s about intention. By now, the excitement of January 1st may already be fading. The alarms are ringing again, routines are creeping back in, and life is reminding us that the calendar changed but the work is...

Insight: The True Meaning of Christmas

In a world filled with lights, music, shopping lists, and endless distractions, Christmas quietly asks us to see beyond the surface. It invites us to pause long enough to gain insight… not into what we want, but into what truly matters. The true meaning of Christmas...

Trust: The Foundation of Every Relationship

Trust isn’t loud. It doesn’t demand attention. But it is always present or painfully absent in every meaningful relationship we have. Whether it’s with a spouse, a friend, a colleague, a client, or a community, trust is the foundation everything else is built on....

Seek the Good: Rewrite the Story

Have you ever noticed how easy it is to get caught up in what’s wrong with the world or with others? It’s almost automatic. We see a coworker make a mistake and immediately point it out. We hear a rumor and assume the worst. We turn on the news and get pulled into...
