The world we live in today often tests us with many trials and tribulations, causing us to lose hope in ourselves and question if we can continue to do it and overcome challenges despite how difficult they are and how much they test our will.

When we read a book presenting crisis as opportunity, we wonder why this ability to overcome crisis isn’t in us. Why do these people have the ability to continue pushing on despite the struggles they face? Why do they never give up?

Why should we never give up?

We will always face challenges in life, but our attitude and resilience will never allow us to give up. Now, I will list some reasons why we should never give up despite it being difficult.

Learn from our mistakes.

We tend to let ourselves down when we realize that we have committed a mistake, and we take for granted the mistakes we have made as learning opportunities. Remember that not everyone will get something on the first try. In fact, some of the most famous scientists have failed but created the most useful inventions. They were not able to achieve these results from their first trial alone. Most of them tried several times before being able to achieve their goals.

This means that every mistake they made, every prototype that did not work as planned, are all stepping stones in creating the invention that one day will change the world. Because of this, we should not view our mistakes as failures and should not easily give up just because they were embarrassing or wrong. We should recognize that we can learn from our mistakes to create a better outcome so we will not repeat the same mistake.

Achieving goals.

We all aspire to become certain people in the future, whether it is to be a teacher, a doctor, a scientist, or a lawyer. We are all bound to commit mistakes. This means that if we were to give up the first time around, we could never achieve anything because failure is a part of life, and we have to use that crisis as an opportunity to grow.

These goals motivate us to keep pushing forward and never give up despite feeling lost. We know what we want and why we are fighting so earnestly to achieve it. We know that these goals make us happy and fulfilled in life, so we should never give up.

Building resilience.

As mentioned earlier, life is full of obstacles. Still, our attitude and ability to become resilient and persevere through difficulties give us our character and fundamental values, such as the determination and willpower to never give up. Moreover, building resilience helps us realize the value of putting effort into something we are passionate about.

Resilience is an essential skill that cannot be automatically given to us. It is endowed to us through experiences, and through those, we realize how important it is to never give up and why it is crucial to keep fighting for our beliefs.

Personal growth.

We can always learn something in the journey, and as one of the most famous songs says, “There’s always going to be another mountain. I’m always going to want to make it move. It’s going to be an uphill battle, but sometimes you’re going to have to lose. It doesn’t matter how fast I get there or what’s waiting on the other side. It’s the climb.”

This means that we learn to value the journey as much as the outcome that we want. This allows us to grow and become better people because we know what we learned throughout the journey so that we do not commit the same mistakes in the future.

Make a change.

When we see something wrong in the world around us, it is very easy to give up and let it continue, which is why discrimination still happens, even after decades of humans learning and evolving. We are too afraid to make a change and stand for something we believe in.

This is why the value of never giving up is crucial, so we are not afraid of tackling things that might be uncomfortable or difficult to achieve head-on. When we understand our goals and wants, we can use this value to continue persevering and create a more human and just society.

Overall, we should never give up because it allows us to create opportunities out of the crisis we experience. Want to learn more about this virtue? Read CRISIS = Opportunity: Finding Growth and Resilience in Challenging Times.
