Surviving tough times is a skill that we must acquire because as we live, life is going to throw curveballs at us whether we like it or not.

Developing resilience will assist you in handling stress. A positive mindset for overcoming challenges and looking forward to brighter days helps us overcome bad times. This is regardless of whether you’re going through a personal, global, or a combination of both kinds of crisis.

Learning how to find ease within is a helpful trick that we can all learn with the help of Michael Pellegrino’s book CRISIS = Opportunity FINDING GROWTH and RESILIENCE in CHALLENGING TIMES.

With that said, let’s go ahead and take a look at the different ways we can build resilience!

1. Practice Acceptance

Although everyone responds to stressful situations differently, many of us attempt to defend ourselves by rejecting the reality of what is going on. Ultimately, you can fool yourself into believing that you continue to have some influence over generally uncontrolled situations by refusing to acknowledge that you’re even going through a crisis.

Even though there are certain benefits to denial, such as helping you cope with the impact of a painful occurrence, denial will only make your suffering worse in the long run. Remaining in denial will hinder your ability to adjust to your new situation, discourage you from looking for answers or acting, and slow down the healing process.

2. Accept the Situation You Are In

Life is full of change, and there are a lot of things about the ever-changing world that are beyond your personal control. For instance, you have little control over how quickly social change occurs, how the economy functions, or the propagation of a virus. Even though it can be difficult to accept, ranting about things that are beyond your ability to influence will only make you feel depressed, nervous, and hopeless. However, accepting your circumstances might free up your time so you can focus on the things you can control.

Pay attention to what you can control. List all the things that are beyond your control and allow yourself to let go of your concerns about them. Rather, concentrate on the action you can do.

Surviving tough times is all about our ability to adapt. But this is just one of the ways to help you get through tough times. We still have a couple of tips here that will help you develop a positive mindset for overcoming challenges.

3. Grieve Whatever Losses You Have Experienced

Experiencing hardships typically results in some sort of loss. It’s critical that you give yourself time to grieve, whether the loss is of someone you care about, your career, or your former existence. You will never be able to recover and finally carry on with your existence unless you confront your sadness, that is, acknowledge and mourn your losses.

4. Be Sure to Reach Out to Other People

During difficult times, maintaining relationships with friends and family can help reduce stress, improve your mood, and help you make sense of all the upheaval and disturbance. Having other people to lean on can help you develop resilience and gain strength from not feeling like you’re fighting your challenges alone.

The individuals you reach out to are only required to be capable of listening to you without passing judgment; they don’t need to know the solutions to the issues you’re facing. In actuality, it frequently doesn’t matter what you say or how you say it. The human touch can significantly impact one’s emotional state, whether through a hug, a smile, or eye contact.

5. Be Kind to Yourself and Invest in Self-Care

Going through difficult circumstances can be physically and psychologically taxing. When your mind feels strong, your body follows suit. So be sure to get enough exercise, practice some relaxation techniques, enhance your sleep quality, and eat well.

Seek the Good: Rewrite the Story
